How to be kind to yourself
“My religion is kindness.” Dalai Lama.
Learning how to be kind to yourself is probably the most important thing you can do for everyone. In fact, is there anything else that is more valid? Kindness, doesn’t demand that we give aimlessly or sacrificially. It asks of something that is cultivated, natural and true. When we think about it, the acts of kindness we have received in our lives- seem to touch and ripple from a place of purity in our hearts too.
It was Louise Hay’s message, “Try being kind.” So if we began to learn, if we had the courage to change, how would self compassion work for you? How does it look to you? We all want kindness, but what does kindness ask of you?
If I chose only kindness today, I would…
If I could choose a kind word to describe myself it would be…
If I needed to hear one thing everyday it would be…
In love, if I could truly let go of what is hurting me I would…
If my heart is the compass, I would go in the direction of…
Kindness comes from the way you are and how you choose to think. If anything this is about coming back to self, perhaps in a way we have always needed. Acknowledging our essence, wellbeing and heart. It is not about perfection, it is about care. There are many ways to show kindness to self, and if we are serious about it, it can be life changing and transformational. Honouring our inner world in the way we need, changes the outer around us. Putting love first is more than a value, it is a spiritual law. It is divine and perhaps the one perfection we can seek, healthily.
Kind to self, it feels good because it is whole within itself. It asks of nothing because it comes from love. It teaches us and lights the way. It is almost like a superpower because of its strength. And it is most humbling as it is gifted. It is something to strive towards, because of its beauty. It is forgiving, because it understands. As nature does.
So please take the time.
‘May I live in kindness. From the thoughts I think, the words I speak, and from my heart to yours.’
